Introduction and Logo Design
The Sky is the Limit
In our modern world of entertainment, where stories are constantly rehashed and extended for greed rather than passion, Skyray Studios is bringing back the golden age of cinema. Our focus is to bring back characters that feel real, with backstories of their own and emotion that viewers can connect with and follow. Movies should feel special through their effects and artistic craft once again. In a digital era where most films focus on the next latest and greatest CGI, audiences are exposed to “Oz,” the man behind the curtain. Motion pictures should leave individuals in awe, transporting them to reaches far beyond our own world. My goal is to not only entertain, but to inspire generations with iconic films that fertilize the minds of others with creativity.
Why Sky and Ray?
Reason for the name Skyray? I want an abstract name that feels very dream-esque and/or magical. I always feel my ideas and projects are up in the clouds beyond our world, and I am striving to physically render what ideas the human mind might hold. The Sky aspect represents my thoughts and ideas floating in a vast space of the human psyche.
You may be asking, “What’s up with the manta, then?” The Manta Ray represents an organic vessel that travels throughout my collective thoughts. They are one of my favorite animals, and can often be found in my artwork. I wanted a creature that was already real, but one that is able to shift into a beautiful abstract universe. Commonly referred to as the “birds of the seas,” I feel confident that they represent my ideas sufficiently.
FX. Story. Action.
The look of the logo was heavily inspired by the 70’s and 80’s- an era of film of which heavily inspires me. I wanted something simplistic, but complex at the same time. Consider it a retro touch bound in a modern design. The colors chosen for the main logo design were meant to emulate an ocean sunset look, and support the fantasy dreams-capes where my projects reside.
My passion for the film industry, especially special effects, stemmed from my childhood love of movies and the magic that went into making them. I fell in love with the creatures, monsters and worlds surrounding them that seemed so much larger than life. It was not long before I began creating my own. Wanting to convey this passion and child-like wonder in the work I create, I hope to become a successful film maker and special effects artist much like Steven Spielberg and Stan Winston. As they have done in their prime, Skyray will shoot to bring captivating visuals to the screen once again, for all audiences. One day when I am no longer here, a historical piece of me will remain here on Earth, frozen in time and masterfully framed on celluloid.
After identifying this passion, I have worked for many years to make my dream of working in the film industry a reality. Practicing for countless hours to improve abilities in drawing, design and sculpting, I am on my way towards becoming an expert. Between high school and trade school programs, I have taken over a dozen courses geared at further improving these skills and developing new ones. I have spent a surmountable bulk of my free time learning the basics of stop motion, simple special effects, and other aspects of filmmaking. On this crazy adventure, I want to remove the veil and show others the artistic process of filmmaking through behind-the-scenes looks, DIY tutorials, and simply talk about film.
Finally, I would also like to say thank you to everyone that has taken their time to read this post. Those who support me and my work are extremely appreciated. I hope everyone has enjoyed this small introduction and looks forward to my future posts.
